Microdermabrasion
As the skin ages from time and exposure to the sun’s radiation, the outer dead cell layer thickens. This causes the skin to look dull and feel dry. By removing this outer dead layer, the skin is smoothed and looks brighter, younger and more radiant. Although there are several ways to do this, including use of alpha-hydroxyl washes, superficial peels, and systems like the Obagi® Skin Care System, one of the quickest, simplest and easiest methods is microdermabrasion.
The procedure is non-surgical and noninvasive. It employs a wand that is passed over your skin. Tiny crystals are blown against your skin, abrading the outer layer. The used crystals and dead cells from the skin are simultaneously vacuumed away to a sealed container. The microdermabrasion takes about 30 to 45 minutes and has no discomfort. You can return to normal activities immediately, looking radiant. If you are using the Obagi® Skin Care System and having significant peeling, this is a great way to reduce the peeling and gain a healthy glow faster.

Wrinkle and Fold Correction
BOTOX®
BOTOX® Cosmetic, or botulinum toxin type A, is a protein commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into the muscles of areas surrounding the eyes, between the eyebrows, the forehead, the neck and the mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines around the mouth and on the neck. BOTOX® injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. We use topical anesthesia for the injections to reduce discomfort. Each injection lasts about 3-6 months. BOTOX® may also be useful for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms.

RESTYLANE®
RESTYLANE® is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. It is a clear gel composed of stabilized, non-animal derived hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is a precursor of collagen found throughout your body. This synthetic acid carries no risk of allergic reaction. It is extremely safe, with more than 4 million injections since 1996, and is approved by the FDA for wrinklefilling. The most common areas for treatment are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows) and the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth). It also is very useful in treating the fine lines that appear on your lips and in filling or defining the lips. It is also excellent in treating other lines and some areas of tissue loss. With its unique ability to bind with water, RESTYLANE® remains in your skin for many months and retains the volume correction until it is almost completely absorbed. We usually inject it using either topical or regional, nerve block anesthesia. You can return to normal activities immediately.

JUVÉDERM®
JUVÉDERM® is another synthetic hyaluronic acid gel. It is said to be the “next generation” of filler because it is more concentrated and more cross-linked. This has allowed the FDA to approve it to fill wrinkles, lines, and lips for up to 12 months. It is also the only filler approved for “persons of color.” Because of its slightly finer consistency, it is ideal for fine lines, but also useful for filling larger lines and wrinkles and volume deficits. We inject it too using either topical or regional, nerve block anesthesia. You can return to normal activities immediately.

RADIESSE®
RADIESSE® is thicker than the hyaluronic acids. Its composition is calcium hydroxylapatite (a compound found naturally in the body) microspheres in a nonreactive gel. Surgeons have used the basic molecule in cleft lip and palate and other facial reconstructions for over 30 years. The FDA has approved it for filling moderate to severe lines and folds and lipoatrophy (loss of fat or volume in the face). Because the composition is thicker than the hyaluronic acids, we inject it deeper. It is especially useful for deep folds and filling areas of volume loss or apparent loss, such as under your eye, your cheek, and your pre-jowl area. This disguises the area and can substitute for a facelift if your aging is early. It can also correct nasal deformities instead of doing a rhinoplasty. Although designed to maximize tissue ingrowth to prevent migration, we generally do not use it in the lips because of the small possibility of nodule formation there. Major advantages of Radiesse® are that it lasts up to 18 months and stimulates the tissue to produce new collagen and rebuild the skin foundation. Therefore, some of the correction achieved is maintained evern after the product had absorbed.

Collagen®
Collagen is a naturally occurring protein found in the second layer of skin (the dermis) which "plumps up" the skin, joints, bones and ligaments. It does, however, require a skin test before use. Injections counteract the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement by filling sunken areas and smoothing lines for a rejuvenated look. Results may begin to fade in a few months, depending on your age, genetic background, skin quality, lifestyle and the body site injected. Because of this, and because injections cannot improve severe wrinkles or deep folds, the procedure is often combined with facial resurfacing or plastic surgery for more a satisfying and longer-lasting outcome.

Fat Injection
Fat can correct any of the major lines and areas of fat loss or apparent loss, such as the cheeks, pre-jowl, and infraoccular areas. It is especially ideal when a large amount of filler is needed. If done properly, most of the fat injected remains alive and present where placed. However, to achieve the proper correction, more than one injection may be required. This is because the fat is a living tissue and requires good blood supply in the area where it is placed. If we inject too much at one time, the pressure reduces the blood supply, and some of the injected fat dies. In spite of this limitation, most people require only one procedure.
The procedure is a multistage process. First, we harvest the fat from an area where you have excess such as the tummy or upper thigh. We then process the fat to remove everything except viable cells. We then inject it where you need it using specially designed, fine blunt tipped needles. We usually do this under local anesthesia in the office. What minimal bruising that does occur can usually be covered with makeup and you can return immediately to most activities.
The major advantage of this procedure is that it is generally permanent. There also is some indication that the fat contains multipotential stem cells that rejuvenate the tissues in which they are placed. Not only do you look better from correcting the folds and volume loss, but the overlying tissues look better because they are.

Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics
The Center for Plastic Surgery carries the Jane Iredale® line of mineral make-up. This line is a highly-sophisticated blend of minerals and pigments using microscopic flat crystals. These crystals allow the skin to breathe and function normally while still protecting it from air-borne pollutants. The staying power of the minerals is so great that they rarely need a touch-up during the day, and, because these silky-feeling powders are water resistant, they won't crease or smear even during the most strenuous exercise. The Jane Iredale Mineral® Make-up is also non-comedogenic, has virtually no allergy risk, is anti-inflammatory, and provides both UVB and UVA sun protection using zinc oxide built into both the loose and pressed powders. Their PureMoist™ LipColours and LipSheres lip colors and LipDrink™ lip moisturizer are the only such products on the market with edible zinc oxide to protect your lips from the sun. The Jane Iredale brushes are designed to be both effective and gentle. These products are also excellent in hiding redness and bruising after surgery or other procedures.
