The Center for Plastic Surgery carries the Jane Iredale® line of mineral makeup. This line is a highly-sophisticated blend of minerals and pigments using microscopic flat crystals. There is no talc or other fillers present, as in other mineral makeup. Jane Iredale’s unique crystals allow the skin to breathe and function normally while still protecting it from air-borne pollutants. The staying power of the minerals is so great that they rarely need a touch-up during the day, and, because these silky-feeling powders are water resistant, they won’t crease or smear even during the most strenuous exercise.
Generally, Jane Iredale® cosmetic products are considered safe for all skin types. That said, anyone may experience a sensitivity to anything. What makes this line of cosmetics different is that they do not contain the top three ingredients that cause sensitivity and allergic reactions. These are synthetic colorants, synthetic preservatives, and synthetic fragrances. Each product also goes through a testing process that includes people with extreme chemical sensitivities. Historically, they have worked very well. If you question how your skin may respond to one of these products, we suggest that you apply a small amount on your inner arm before more widespread application.
Jane Iredale® Mineral Cosmetics have been formulated to be non-comedogenic and non-allergenic. They are designed to create a blanket of radiance over your skin while still allowing it to breathe and function optimally. Studies indicate that these mineral cosmetics are unlikely to cause inflammation and breakouts, even in acne-prone skin. That said, if you are receiving care from a doctor for your acne, talk to them before beginning to use new makeup products.
The mineral powders are not formulated with sunscreen. However, their mineral particles have some sun-blocking capabilities. Many also contain zinc ona/or titaneum oxide, both excellent UVA & UVB blocks. You may apply additional sunscreen with zinc oxide before applying your makeup if you desire. Doing so before you put on your mineral powder should not affect the smooth finish that you expect.
Jane Iredale® Mineral Cosmetics is great for aging skin! We can understand how, if you have troublesome lines and creases already, the concern that powdered makeup will only make them more prominent. This isn't the case, and it all comes down to application. These mineral cosmetics are meant to absorb light (matte powders) or reflect light. In either situation, aging skin receives a healthy glow and smooth texture. For more severe lines and wrinkles, it is helpful to spritz the skin using a Jane Iredale® hydrating spray after you've applied your powder. Another option is to apply the powder using a sponge that has been spritzed beforehand. This "washing" technique can cover the skin lightly and reduce the appearance of large pores and wrinkles.
Yes! Our staff can discuss the proper use and timing of application of your Jane Iredale® makeup based on the treatment we've planned for you. Provided that the skin is not broken, it's safe to apply these products immediately after your procedure. In addition to covering any post-treatment redness, the zinc oxide and titanium dioxide particles can also soothe the skin, helping it recover more quickly.
The Jane Iredale® Mineral Makeup is also non-comedogenic, has virtually no allergy risk, is anti-inflammatory, and provides both UVB and UVA sun protection using zinc oxide and titanium oxide built into both the loose and pressed powders. We recommend the loose powders as they have a full 6% zinc oxide and give the best sun protection. Their BBCream also contains titanium oxide to provide UVA and UVB protection. Their PureMoist™ LipColours and LipGloss lip colors are the only such products on the market with edible titanium oxide to protect your lips from the sun much better than those with an SPF that protect only from UVB. Their clear LipDrink™ lip moisturizer also protects your lips from the UVA rays. The Jane Iredale brushes are designed to be both effective and gentle. These products are also excellent in hiding redness and bruising after surgery or other procedures.
