Choosing the Body Contouring Procedure That’s Right for You

Friday, March 15th, 2019

We’ve long been taught that to look the way we want, we must reach a particular weight. That weight is generally calculated based on our overall body frame. So, if you’re five-foot-ten, your ideal body weight would be significantly different than a person measuring five-feet even. The thing about this concept of height-to-weight ratio is that it isn’t perfect. You may be completely satisfied with the number on the scale but not so happy with certain curves on your body.

At the Center for Plastic Surgery, we have helped many patients from the Highlands area feel great about their shape. For some, the solution to their concerns is liposuction. For others, it is Zerona. In general, people tend to observe their choices in a “surgical vs. non-surgical” box. This simplified approach only meets one bit of criteria, though. Here, we discuss a few questions that you can ask yourself as you decide how you might get the absolute best results from body-contouring treatment.

What area do I need contoured?

This may be the ideal question to jump-start your body-contouring process. Zerona is a laser slimming treatment in which applicators apply thermal energy toward localized pockets of fat. During treatment, only heat penetrates the skin; there are no incisions made. The applicators that are a part of the Zerona device are excellent for treating areas such as the abdomen, flanks, back, hips, and thighs. Benefits of this technique include the ability to treat more expansive areas like the abdomen without invasive surgery. On the other hand, liposuction can be refined down to a precise area like the chin and upper neck or area just above the knees. Liposuction may also be considered for male breast reduction.

How many areas need correction?

Non-surgical body contouring treatment is advantageous and appealing because there is no downtime to speak of. However, patients who want to contour multiple areas of the body may find that liposuction is a more cost-effective treatment option. This is because we can typically remove a precise amount of fatty tissue from multiple areas in one procedure versus treating individual areas during multiple office visits.

What is my desired outcome?

One of our priorities during each consultation is to ensure that the patient has received the full amount of detailed information needed to develop realistic expectations of the predicted outcome. This is just as important with a non-surgical treatment as it is with a surgical procedure because satisfaction is what we’re shooting for. When you visit our Highlands office, discuss the extent of contouring you wish to achieve in every area. This allows us to make the best recommendation, leaving the final decision completely in your informed hands.
