Botox is consistently a popular option for patients who are seeking to soften fine lines and wrinkles across the forehead and around their eyes. A recent study released by The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery recently discusses what was described as a “new” way to use Botox to temporarily alleviate fine lines and wrinkles. So, what did the study say exactly?
In this study, the authors used a technique different from usual to help temporarily soften fine lines and wrinkles across the forehead without giving patients the “frozen-forehead look” they typically receive after the usual technique of injecting Botox. With standard methods, Botox is injected directly into the muscles in limited areas of the forehead and spreads causing the muscles to relax and prevent them from contracting. With their “new” method, Botox is administered with a “microdroplet” technique only in the areas where relaxation is desired.
In a 227 patient study, patients demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles across their forehead without spread to unwanted muscles that can occur with standard Botox injection technique. The doctors concluded that this technique was less likely to spread to unintended areas. Additionally, they also found the botulinum toxin could lift the brow when injected into the appropriate muscles. Although described as “new,” because it is different from what most injectors have done, this is a technique we have been using and refining for at least 15 years. It has given us an advanced method of actually sculpting the face instead of just relaxing muscles.
