A breast lift (mastopexy) by Dr. Buchanan can return a youthful, perkier, and a more aesthetically pleasing shape and lift to your breasts. Breasts sag because of weight loss, pregnancy, loss of the skin’s natural elasticity, or simply the effects of gravity. Come visit us in Highlands, NC to reach your aesthetic goals.
A breast lift procedure reduces breast droop and returns the breast to its youthful, perky appearance. It generally also refills the superior part of the breast and reduces any enlargement of the areolae.
A breast lift procedure can also help to reduce the areolar size (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), and it can be combined with breast augmentation (enlargement). This pairing allows added breast volume (if you feel that, within a bra, you are not as large as you desire) and firmness. Breast lifts at The Center For Plastic Surgery can also be combined with a breast reduction of one or both sides to make your breasts even or smaller.
If, in a bra, you are the size you would like to be but have droopy breasts and or enlarged areolae, then you are an excellent candidate for a mastopexy.
Usually, however, the only thing removed in a breast lift is a small amount of skin, and not any breast tissue. You will, therefore, generally remain the exact size you were before the procedure, just perkier. Dr. Buchanan can lift any size breasts, but results last longest when they are originally small to average and sagging. The amount of your droop and other individual factors determine the method used, and, thus, the resultant scar. The Center For Plastic Surgery does try to limit your scar as much as we can. Occasionally, with minimal droop, and, especially if you wish to be larger, this can be only the area under or around the areolae (the dark areas around the nipples). For almost everyone else we are able to limit the scar to around the areolae but not along the inframammary crease under the breast. Additionally Dr. Buchanan uses an “internal bra” technique and buried sutures that take 6-9 months to dissolve. These help keep the scar minimal and, usually, results in an almost imperceptible scar after total healing.
A Breast Lift procedure takes about 3 hours.
The Center For Plastic Surgery usually performs mastopexy in the hospital, as an outpatient under light general anesthesia,
After a breast lift, most patients feel relatively normal with minimal pain by the next day and can go back to most non-strenuous activities, including work, in a few days. You should not jog, bounce, or put pressure on the breasts for a month or so. It will take 1-2 months to recover all your previous energy.
You can expect a lifted, fuller, and perky appearance to your chest that is the same size as your breasts now.
