3 Considerations Before Liposuction

Wednesday, March 15th, 2017

Before Liposuction Highlands, NCLiposuction is one of the best ways to get rid of stubborn areas of fat that just don’t seem to go away no matter how much you diet and exercise. By actually suctioning the fat from these areas,a procedure that can frequently be done under local anesthesia in the office, liposuction will give you an improved contour with minimal recovery. If you are thinking about liposuction, there are really 3 things to consider. Read on to learn more.

  1. Is the Fat Localized?

Liposuction is indicated for localized areas of fat. Most commonly this is under the chin, on the tummy, hips or flanks, around the knees or other isolated places. Although it can be used for multiple areas, when there are multiple places needing reduction, frequently weight loss or use of the Zerona fat melting laser is the best choice. If you are not sure, a consultation can define what is best.

  1. What is the Quality and Elasticity of Your Skin?

Liposuction works best if your skin si relatively tight and the elasticity is good. This allows your skin to contract with no wrinkling after the fat is removed. However, liposuction can be an excellent choice even in someone with moderately lax or excess skin. This can be especially true if the excess is below the chin or you are mainly concerned with looking good in clothes. In fact, in the early days of liposuction when the recommendation was to not do liposuction on anyone over 30, Dr Buchanan did the first procedure on someone over 60. Without clothes she had some loose skin still, but in slacks she no longer had the bulges she had had previously and she was one of the happiest patients he had after the procedure. Within a few years everyone was expanding the age restriction.

  1. What is Your Health?

Depending on your health, you may be more at risk for developing problems during or after surgery. If you have health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or a blood disorder, make sure that you notify Dr. Buchanan during your initial consultation. Our number one priority at The Center For Plastic Surgery is to ensure that all of our patients have a safe and speedy surgery and recovery.

Getting liposuction is a great way to get rid of excess fat on your tummy, hips, flanks, or under the chin. To learn more about liposuction and whether or not you are a suitable candidate, contact The Center For Plastic Surgery today!
