Do those little worry lines, wrinkles, or folds around the mouth, chin, eyes, forehead or elsewhere in the face or depressions or hollowing from aging bother you? Have your lips lost their definition? If a woman, does your lipstick bleed in lines on your lips? Would you like to correct these problems without surgery or just do not think you are ready for a facelift, blepharoplasty or other surgical procedure? Do you “need” a facelift or blepharoplasty but don’t have the time or the money? Have you already had a facelift or eyelid surgery and the area has re-aged? With the new injectable products and modified techniques using your own fat, we can now provide you results that previously only surgery could. There is no downtime and minimal risks. Dr. Buchanan of Highlands, NC is your liquid facelift expert and is ready to answer any questions you may have about this revolutionary treatment.
For many years, 60% of the facelifts Dr. Buchanan performed had already had a facelift but came in to eliminate the re-aging that had occurred since the procedure. Another 5-8% were under 55 years of age. Almost all of these had very little problems in the neck, but, at the time, a surgical procedure was the only alternative to achieve a return of a youthful appearance. Today both groups can be rejuvenated exceptionally well without surgery.
Others have jokingly called the use of fillers such as Juvéderm® Ultra, Juvéderm® Voluma, Juvéderm® Volbella and Juvederm® Vollure or fat grafting a “Liquid Facelift” or “Facelift in a Syringe” because use of them can almost give you results similar to a facelift. We call our approach “Today’s Liquid Lift™” because we go the next step and include Skin Rejuvenation, Botox® and fat injection in the methods we use to achieve a more relaxed, natural and longer lasting result. We consider more than just the lines around the mouth or between the eyes. Instead, we concentrate on what is causing you the aged appearance and treat what will give you the most optimal reversal of the problem with the least expense and downtime. We also use these methods to correct nasal deformities (what some others call a Liquid Rhinoplasty) or improve the aged appearance of the hands.

Today’s Liquid Lift™ is especially useful for early changes of aging and those from reaging after a previous surgical procedure where the majority of the changes are from deflation of the tissues rather than significant loose skin. The deflation causes what appears to be loose skin and folds. As an example, nasolabial folds (those creases from the nose down and outward) are caused by loss of fill in the malar (or suborbital) area with the descent of the overlying skin and subcutaneous tissue that stops its descent at a ligament connecting the skin from the nose downward and outward to the deep tissue or bone. For a number of years since fillers first became available nasolabial folds were treated by injecting the filler under the fold to efface it. This, however, did nothing for the aging above the fold and, in fact, worsened the aging by enhancing the squareness of the face rather than restoring the triangular appearance of youth. Modern technique instead refills the malar area, correcting the aging there, and also elevating and reducing the nasolabial fold. Similar correction of early jowling and lateral lip commissural folding can also be achieved by filling over the malar and zygomatic areas. Tear troughs under the eyes have been treated by direct injection of a filler. This, however, risks significant problems including swelling. Instead, we now inject over the malar bone below the orbital rim to elevate the cheek tissues, thus eliminating the tear trough. This technique is now taught by Allergan, the maker of Juvéderm® for use with Voluma™, though we had been using it with Radiesse® since 2005. We switched to Voluma® became available since it lasted longer and, because it can be dissolved, was potentially safer. Unfortunately, many injectors are still filling the nasolabial fold primarily and directly injecting the tear trough with light fillers creating problems that are hard to correct until the filler is absorbed by the body.

JUVÉDERM™ is not a single filler, but a family of fillers. Different members of the JUVÉDERM™ family of fillers are said to last 1-2 years, however, most appear to last longer than the manufacturer claims and some patients can still see results up to 4 years later.
